Now forming: "Friends of Roosevelt Library"

The Roosevelt Library is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, June 1, 2013, and a new "Friends of Roosevelt Library" group is now forming to support this great new resource!

What is a "Friends" group? "Friends" groups:
- Promote existing library programs and activities and promote the value of their library.
- Raise money through book sales, special events, and joint membership dues.
- Grant funds to the library for programs, collections, and special projects.
- Host book clubs and public events.
- Work with their library liaison to determine how best to support the Library.

If you are interested in joining, please contact Shannon Brumbaugh at sbrumbaugh (at) hclib.org.

Call for Art for Utility Box Project

SENA’s Quality of Life Committee is sponsoring a Utility Box Project to commission original art on up to five utility boxes in the Standish and Ericsson neighborhoods. Selected artists will be compensated $1,000 for the design and creation of this art. Utility boxes—brown or gray metal boxes belonging to the City of Minneapolis and various utilities—are located along several major streets. They are drab and often attract graffiti. The project is intended to reduce
graffiti, add beauty and aesthetic appeal, and feature local artists. It is financed by money for graffiti prevention from the Neighborhood Revitalization Program.

The committee is seeking submissions by artists, 18 years or older, who live, work, go to school, play, or practice spirituality in the Standish and/or Ericsson Neighborhood. Employees of
SENA or the City of Minneapolis are not eligible. Applicants are asked to consider the theme “OurNeighborhood” as it relates to their submission, but the theme does not have to be explicit or obvious in the work itself. Submissions must be received by May 1, 2013. Applications will be judged by a curator, and award winners will be notified by May 17. The work must be completed by Nov. 1, 2013.

For details and an application, see below, or contact SENA Neighborhood Coordinator Bob Kambeitz at 721-1601.
