SENA invites you to become an active participant in your neighborhood. Volunteer opportunities are available on all Action Groups and Committees, as well as some short-term projects.
If you have an issue or concern you don’t see covered here, and you’re willing to work on that, please bring it to the attention of the SENA Board. The Board meets the second Monday of each month and time is set aside at each meeting to allow for citizens to bring their concerns forward. Current Volunteer Opportunities: SENA Board of Directors - the governing body of the organization. Board members are elected to three-year terms at the Annual Meeting in October, or to fill vacancies as they occur. Communications Committees - groups who produce the SENA News and the SENA web page. Business, Development and Transportation Committee – this group provides the neighborhood review of potential developments and business requests for zoning changes or conditional use permits. They will also address transportation and traffic issues as they arise. Quality of Life Committee - working to strengthen and sustain a safe, stable, and healthy environment, including issues related to water quality, land use, and neighborhood park facilities and safety; strengthening connections among residents and helping improve conditions affecting families, youth, and seniors. Housing Committee - committed to assisting residents and city agencies to preserve, maintain, and improve our homes by staying current on issues affecting housing, monitoring the conditions of structures, increasing awareness and access to home improvement resources, and promoting responsible improvement and development. Short-term or one-time events - help in many capacities at neighborhood or SENA events,such as, the Lake Hiawatha Neighborhood Festival or the Hiawatha HeartWarmer. |
